Parental leave / medical leave of absence

We provide support for employees who need to take time off for parental leave, medical conditions, and short-term disabilities. The time allotment and paperwork varies by global office.

Regardless of the country, all our employees are entitled to a minimum of 16 weeks of parental leave. This applies to both birth and adoption situations.

• U.S.: In line with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), eligible employees can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for specified medical reasons. In addition to the 16 weeks of paid parental leave, employees may also qualify for additional unpaid leave under FMLA.
• Japan: Employees can take sick leave as needed. For long-term illnesses, employees may be eligible for leave benefits under the Employees’ Health Insurance. For parental leave, employees are entitled to leave until their child is 1 year old, in accordance with national standards.
• France: Employees are entitled to medical leave as per their doctor’s certification. During this time, employees may be eligible for daily sickness allowances from the French Social Security. Parental leave varies based on the number of children and type of birth, but employees will always receive a minimum of 16 weeks.
• Brazil: In case of illness, employees can take sick leave as needed. For long-term medical conditions, employees may be eligible for sickness benefits from the Brazilian Social Security. In addition to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, mothers are entitled to an additional 120 days of maternity leave as per Brazilian labor regulations.
